A HAMPSHIRE schoolboy is enjoying the sweet taste of success after he rose to the challenge to become champion of the TV show Junior Bake Off.

Eleven-year-old Harry, who goes to school in Winchester, impressed the queen of cakes Mary Berry and celebrity chef James Martin at a Mad Hatter’s Tea party themed final.

Paying homage to Alice in Wonderland, the budding artisan baker cooked up Rabbit Muffins before serving a pocket watch carrot cake with orange butter cream, homemade fondant icing and chocolate clock numbers.

He beat dozens of hopefuls in preliminary rounds before taking the crown when he went up against four other aspiring young chefs in the grand final.

Speaking to the Daily Echo after the hit Children’s BBC show, watched by millions, he said: “I did not think I would win so when they called my name I was surprised, but I thought the baking that day was my best. I am pleased the judges thought they were really good.”
