ONE of two new rugby pitches in Alresford may be playable in the 2014-15 season, the town council has been told.
But there was “no chance” the second would be ready, Councillor Roy Gentry said.
Construction work has been taking place at Arlebury Park to level a sloping field for the town rugby club.
Cllr Gentry said work had now stopped for the winter and would resume in February.
Work was delayed for five to six weeks in the autumn which has prevented the scheme being finished this year, he said.
In the spring the upper field will be sanded, top soiled and seeded. It needed less drainage than expected and the savings will go towards buying extra land for the second pitch, which should be ready for 2015-16 season.
