IT WAS an inspirational night that saw the achievements of outstanding students celebrated in style.

High achievers and hard working pupils from Oasis Mayfield Academy were honoured in the school’s first Festival of Achievement, in front of proud teachers and parents.

Students from all years were nominated for awards, with the hard work over the past 12 months of those in years 8 to 11 recognised and those in year 7 who have made a great start to their secondary school education.

There were also two special Principal’s Awards handed to two former students, who left the school after gaining an astonishing 17 GCSE’s each – Joie Freeborn and Connor Brown.

Mayor of Southampton Ivan White handed out the awards, which teachers hope will inspire students to work hard so that they might be nominated next year.

Michele Mcilveen, from the school, said: “It was our very first event of this kind and it was a very emotional and inspiring evening.

“We are hoping to make it an annual event because we want to have the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our students, who we are all very proud of.”
