BRRRRRACE yourselves – an Arctic plunge is heading Hampshire’s way.
Temperatures are set to drop below freezing again this week and it could get even colder still.
The Met Office could not rule out another polar blast next week with fears temperatures could drop as far as -5C.
A spokesman said the biggest risk of ice this week was tomorrow and Friday nights when temperatures will fall to -1C and -2C.
He added: “The risk of extensive ice is pretty low although we might see some localised frost, and it looks like it will only be one or two nights.”
The Met Office only provides data for a five-day period as that is as far as they can predict with a high degree of probability.
It means heating concerns for some Hampshire residents, particularly the elderly, who may struggle to pay the energy bills.
The Daily Echo has teamed up with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation for Surviving Winter campaign, calling for people to donate their Winter Fuel Payment if they are able to help the elderly and vulnerable.
As reported by the Daily Echo, the city and county councils are well prepared for winter with tonnes of grit and new vehicles ready to clear the roads.
But a county spokesman said they were not worried about the weather this week.
The spokesman said: “We have not been tipped off about anything big so we are not concerned about this week yet. That could all change though.
“If it does happen we are totally prepared for whatever comes. We get daily updates and are told if we need to be on standby so we can react very quickly.”
