More of county's coastal communities put on flood alert

Daily Echo: Flood warning issued Flood warning issued

FURTHER flood warnings are now being issued for across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

The Environment Agency (EA) has extended warnings, with flooding expected in some areas from 12.40am tomorrow.

As previously reported an alert was issued for Lymington, Beaulieu and Milford on Sea.

But people living near Southampton water, Hamble Estuary, Gosport, Fareham, Portchester and the coastal areas of the Isle of Wight are also being warned by the agency.

High water is likely to hit between 12.40am and 1am tomorrow, with flooding expected

In Southampton Water the Environment Agency is warning that vulnerable homes in St Denys, Woodmill and Eling should be prepared.

In Fareham water levels will be very high up slipways.

The boatyards at Bursledon and Rope Walk in Hamble may flood. The Rising Sun pub in Warshash may also be at risk.

It is thought some road flooding may occur at Fareham Town Quay and tidal water may flood into the bottom of Wallington Shore Road.

Coastal roads around Hillhead and Gosport may be affected.

As reported earlier, the Beaulieu estuary and the open coast between Thorns Beach and Needs Ore Point are also vulnerable, in particular the Mill House on the downstream side of the Mill Pond.

It is forecast that Palace Lane and the main B3056 road will flood for an hour around the high water period.

A flood alert has been enforced from Milford on Sea to Lymington.

Coastal flood defence gates will be closed from 8.30pm this evening, and there will be a further gate closure at 8.30am tomorrow.

The tide will be high around the Isle of Wight. Coastal roads and car parks may flood and water levels will be very high up slipways.

A separate flood warning has been issued for Cowes, East Cowes and Newport where a small number of properties may be flooded.

Properties close to the floating bridge, Medina Road and Cowes are at risk.

Well, as usual with the media weather drama warnings, nothing much has happened. I suppose it'll be drier than usual locally. Unless a puddle forms - then the camera will rule !
