Police seal off Weston Shore after dog walker finds body parts

Daily Echo: Body parts washed up on beach Body parts washed up on beach

A POST mortem is about to get underway to try and identify human remains washed up on a Hampshire beach this morning.

Police sealed off a stretch of Weston Shore in Southampton after parts of a body were found earlier today.

Officers say the gruesome discovery was made by a dog walker around 8.25am close to the yacht club.

The area in front of Southampton Sailing Club was sealed off by police who spent several hours at the scene where the remains were recovered. The cordon has since been lifted and the area reopened.

Hampshire police say it is not known at this time whether the body parts are male or female. They were removed to hospital where the post mortem examination is expected to get underway within the next hour.

Inquiries are now focussed on establishing the identity of the deceased, and checking local missing persons records. A Hampshire police spokesman said: "Whist there is nothing at this time to indicate this is suspicious, officers will keep an open mind until results of the post mortem are known and whilst inquiries continue."

That is a very tasteless comment. Someone is going to get the tragic news that this is their loved one.

So sad a loss of life whoever it is , it's the worst thing imaginable not knowing wether your loved one is alive or dead. Utter torment . Hopefully closure is found for everyone touched by this :/

cant actually believe that people would be trying to make jokes on a story like this...

think about the person. their families.. people who found the body parts. people who live near the scene.

and you think its funny to sit and make jokes.....

the only sewer is your disgusting mind.

Missing since January after being seen jumping off the Itchen Bridge, splashing around and then disappearing. I'd say it's highly unlikely the fella is alive so maybe it could provide the family with some closure?

Don't know why you're being downvoted, it's a perfectly reasonable question. Praying that it isn't so-and-so is a supremely selfish act disguised as being humanitarian - it's a person, no matter who it is.

A few years ago there was someone who apparently missed the last ferry and was thought to have tried to swim to Hythe, or somewhere in that area.

Can anyone remember whether he was found?

No, he wasn't found, even after an extensive Police search.

What a load of PC garbage. The person expressed a wish that it wasn't somebody he/she knew. To even comment in the form of a question in his reply, and then for you to seek to support him / her is pathetic, in the extreme.

I agree. For example, the body of someone who is missing is a lot worse than the body of someone who had already been buried at sea!

I don’t agree..

Maybe "cliffwalker" was hoping it wasn’t someone they know...they just don’t want to mention them by name.

Also you say that its "PC" with the inference that its also wrong... Talk straight please, just say you think it’s wrong for goodness sake, rather than try and make it seem like there is some sort of agenda.
