IT was a tense day of racing but for one Hampshire sailor it was all worth it.

Dave Richards from Southampton is part of the crew of OneDLL which stormed to victory in the score gate of the latest leg of the Clipper Round the World Race.

The 63-year-old engineering director, who has little sailing experience, is taking part in the whole 40,000-mile race.

The team, skippered by Cowes-based Ollie Cotterell, claimed the maximum three points.

Derry-Londonderry-Doire came second and Henri Lloyd third.

Old Pulteney, whose crew includes Charles Slater, 39, and Kate Hepworth, 40, both from Southampton, came in fourth, narrowly missing the final point up for grabs but with less than ten miles separating the Scottish team and Henri Lloyd, Old Pulteney is putting in one of its strongest performances in the race so far.
