THE success of more than 40 children aged six to 14 years old was celebrated at the New Forest and Southampton Children’s University’s first graduation ceremony.

The young graduates were rewarded for their passion for learning with a certificate from the Children’s University chancellor and Paralympics 2012 wheelchair rugby star Aaron Phipps. Sheriff of Southampton Cllr Sue Blatchford was also at the event to congratulate the youngsters.

The children took part in extra-curricular activities and events including visits to museums, businesses, exhibitions, sports events and university lectures to achieve certificates, postgraduate awards and doctorates at the event at Southampton Solent University.

The New Forest and Southampton Children’s University was launched earlier this year as a partnership between Southampton Solent University, Brockenhurst College and schools in the district to encourage children from disadvantaged backgrounds or from families who may think further education is not an option.
