Dense fog was causing major disruption across Hampshire this morning.

The fog caused ferry delays and motorway accidents as well as closing Southampton docks.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning as a result of the conditions.

It warned the public of travel disruption, with visibility expected to drop to lower than 50 metres in places.

An accident involving a motorcycle on the M27 between Fareham and Portsmouth was expected to cause delays.

It happened eastbound near junction 11.

Meanwhile Wightlink ferry services between Lymington and Yarmouth were reporting delays of 15 minutes.

Red Funnel warned passengers to expect hold ups between Southampton and Cowes.

It has also been reported that Southampton Docks has also been hit by fog.

All container movements at the port were suspended for a number of hours until the fog lifted enough to allow work to resume.

Container movements resumed around 11.30am.

As a result roads bosses have warned drivers to expect hold ups on routes around the docks.

Southampton Airport has also warned pasengers to expect delays on flights this morning due to the fog.

Travellers have been told that some flights have been delayed by up to an hour.

No flights have been able to land and 18 flights have been delayed.

A flight to and from Hannover has been cancelled as has a similar flight to Newcastle.

Flights to and from Jersey and Guernsey have also beeb cancelled.

A spokeswoman for Heathrow Airport confirmed that 40 incoming and outgoing flights had been cancelled this morning, and others had been delayed.
