RESIDENTS are being warned of rogue traders.

Hampshire County Council says that the conmen are currently cold calling in Fair Oak and the surrounding area, offering to resurface driveways.

They may be making false claims that they are connected with roadworks nearby or working for the council.

Trading standards officers advise consumers not to agree to work instigated from a cold call or leaflet drop.

They should obtain at least three written quotes from reputable businesses or traders who are either members of the Hampshire County Council Trading Standards Buy With Confidence Scheme or a recognised trade association.

Traders who agree work at the home of an individual are required by law to provide consumers with a notice of right to cancel, which gives customers a seven-day cooling-off period. Work should not start until after this, unless by written agreement of the consumer beforehand.

Anyone with information about cold callers can call the council on 01962 833666.
