YOUNGSTERS at a Hampshire primary school had the chance to map out their future when local businesses visited as part of a careers fair.

Year 6 pupils at Calmore Junior School were able to quiz the professionals about their jobs to find out about the world of work.

The idea began with pupils writing directly to local companies as part of their literacy work, inviting businesses to go along and take part.

About a dozen companies and institutions, including Hampshire Police, the University of Southampton and the Daily Echo, took part.

Year 6 teacher Nick Darsh said: “The afternoon has been a great success.

“We were so impressed with how the children responded. It was all about inspiring them to set their sights high and they really seemed to enjoy it.”
