HIGHWAYS chiefs in Southampton have refused to disclose the result of top-level talks on recent traffic chaos in the city.

The city council and contractor Balfour Beatty met yesterday to discuss recent gridlock that has affected thousands of motorists.

On two occasions, roadworks at Platform Road and the arrival of cruise ships have combined with other factors to cause gridlock throughout the city centre.

As reported in the Daily Echo, after chaos on Wednesday, council transport boss Cllr Jacqui Rayment said high-level talks would be held to see if anything more could be done to prevent it happening again.

But last night, the council refused to disclose the outcome of the meeting, with a spokesman saying it would be made public in due course.
