POLICE have swooped to arrest four teenagers in connection with an incident in which a fridge was thrown from a Southampton tower block.

The large white fridge was hurled from a window at Redbridge Towers, crashing down into the car park in the early hours of last Sunday.

It smashed into pieces, narrowly avoiding a van parked nearby.

Miraculously no one was hurt in the incident. The incident shocked residents living at the 20-storey block, who branded the culprits “mindless idiots” and said it was lucky no one was killed following the act.

Officers arrested three boys aged 16, and one aged 15, all from Southampton, on suspicion of criminal damage recklessly endangering life after carrying out extensive inquiries in the area.

The suspects have been bailed until February 6 and 7 pending further police inquiries.

Police were alerted to the incident at around 12.40am on Sunday and spent time leafleting all home inside the 187ft block as they launched a hunt to find those responsible.

Residents expressed their horror over the incident, and one a woman's car windscreen was smashed after it was claimed a toaster was thrown from one of the windows.

The arrests come after officers urged people in the block, who may have known those responsible, to do the right thing and come forward with information.

Police said it was fortunate no one was seriously hurt in both incidents.

Anyone with information on the incidents is asked to contact Hampshire police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
