Southampton hairdresser and make-up artist wins international award
A CREEPY clown has helped win a Southampton hair and make-up artist a top award.
Sharon Holloway, from the city’s Vintage Hair Lounge, took home the Best Make-up prize at Reklamefilmpreis, the German advertising film awards, at a ceremony in Frankfurt.
Her outstanding work was recognised for specialised hair, make-up and prosthetics in the commercial film Herbaria – Fears, shot entirely underwater at Pinewood Studios’ specialist underwater stage.
The advertising film, produced by Tempomedia Filmproduktion, which has been on screens for several months in Germany, has already attracted acclaim for German director, Andreas Roth, scooping a host of industry awards.
Sharon, who started her film make-up career in 2002 and is creative director and partner of Southampton-based vintage hair and make-up business, Vintage Hair Lounge, attended the ceremony and said she values the award as recognition for the specialist creative talent that exists here in the UK.

“Anytime British film crews get recognised by the rest of the world for our creative and technical skills, we step a little further towards more support and promotion of our industry at home,” she said.
“It’s a tough industry, but when given the opportunities we excel at rising to the occasion. This particular project was extremely challenging, but I am thrilled with the results and privileged to be honoured with this prestigious award for my contribution to its success.”
The film shows three horror characters battling underwater with the weight of oversized Herbaria tea bags attached to their ankles, and the taglines ‘drown your fears’ and ‘calm your fears’. It went viral across the globe in February.
