HEROIN abuser Peter Grant forced the front door in a block of student accommodation where he had been squatting during the summer and stole about property worth about £400, including clothing and a guitar, from a foreign student on holiday in Portgual.
Southampton Crown Court heard the burglary in Bevois Valley Road happened just weeks after the former electrician had been given a suspended sentence for a similar offence.
Grant, 23, of Southampton Street, admitted burglary.
Jailing him for 19 months, Judge Peter Ralls QC told Grant: “This was something clearly planned and you knew the room would not be occupied.”
