MOST young girls are very attached to their long hair.

But two Hampshire schoolgirls have waved goodbye to their locks to help the Little Princess Trust this Christmas Seven-year-old Cora Banyard, of Locks Heath had her 10in ponytail cut off during assembly at Locks Heath Junior School.

Cora was born with a rare heart defect and had surgery when she was just a day old, followed by a further three open heart surgeries in her young life.

The trust provides wigs for children undergoing cancer treatment or hair loss, Cora’s efforts have also raised £700 for the Starlight Children’s charity, which grants wishes for seriously ill children.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Young, also of Locks Heath, also decided to donate her hair, which she has been growing since she was five.

The 12-year-old pupil at Brookfield Community School, in Sarisbury Green, said: “I wanted to get it cut before Christmas because I thought it would be a nice Christmas present for a little girl.”

In all Rebecca has raised £1,200 for the charity – enough to buy three wigs.
