MORE than 100 households in Hampshire are still without power this afternoon after gale force winds damaged overhead lines.

Southern Electric Power Distribution (SEPD) engineers are today working  to repair damage to the electricity network in the rural parts of the New Forest.

It is hoped all power will be back on by the early evening.

The weather front moved in overnight and into this morning, with high winds and heavy rain affecting the network.

A SEPD spokesman said: “Extra engineers and support staff have been mobilised in order to be able to repair any damage as quickly as possible.

.

“We have increased call handlers in our emergency centre in Portsmouth and would urge anyone without power to contact us on 0800 072 7282.

“Outbound calls are also being made to our most vulnerable customers such as the elderly, those with medical requirements, the disabled or people with young babies.

“Safety around the electricity network is crucial at this time and anyone who finds any damage to the network should remain at a safe distance and call our emergency number.”
