THE number of people working in Southampton and Hampshire has risen.
Latest figures released by the Department for Work and Pensions show 125,000 people are currently employed in Southampton, as opposed to 117,000 a year ago.
The figures, which run from July 12 to June 2013, also show the number of people in employment in Hampshire rose from 640,000 last year to 642,000 this year.
The unemployment rate in Southampton has dropped, from 7.9 per cent in 2011-12 to 7.7 per cent this year.
Unemployment in Hampshire currently stands at 42,000, 5.7 per cent of the population.
