SEVERE weather warnings have been issued for Hampshire tonight (Dec 20).

The Met Office is forecasting heavy rain which will hit Southampton late this evening and carry on into Saturday morning.

Some parts of the county can expect between 3-4cm of rain and winds of up to 50mph.

But Southampton is likely to escape the worst of the weather, with 1-2cm of rain predicted and winds of up to 40mph.

A spokesman said: “There is heavy rain moving in to the South which will last from 3pm today until 3pm tomorrow and Southampton will be hit later tonight, with the weather not clearing up again until the morning.”

The worst affected areas are expected to be closer to the coast, such as the Isle of Wight.

Meanwhile the Environment Agency has also issued 10 flood warnings for the South East today but none are in Hampshire.
