Bring back the workhouse, that way if people want a bed and food they can go there and save the benefit system and help uk industry at the same time making stuff for 18 hours a day.

Southampton is definitely gearing up for the new influx of immigrant, and the re-locating of existing families/individuals who can't be housed in London Boroughs like Croydon and Newham (as reported earlier this year in the National Press).

This is,I believe, why we are building so many new Student blocks in order to create vacancies in the existing bedsits and HMOs.

The slum landlords are not going to turn these HMOs back into Family homes, there's not as much profit in doing that.

What a surprise! Can't fill the empty office space, so what do you do? Turn it into Southampton City Council's dream! Flats! No wonder why so many new office proposals are in the pipeline! Southampton Flat Council sound a more appropriate name?

If i was a betting person i would say that when the flats are built that they will occupied within a week or two.
.
There are hundreds of offices in Southampton that are standing empty and have been possibly for a few years.
.
Any idea which is best to put your constuction money into !!!

I saw nothing about social housing in the article, I suspect this will be private letting so the tenants will probably not be able to afford to work.
