A BUS passenger was attacked after trying to intervene when two men hurled abuse.
The victim, a 40-year-old man from Southampton, was on a night bus back to the city after a night out in Hamble.
Two men on the bus were being verbally abusive, particularly to the driver.
When the bus stopped at Victoria Road, in Netley Abbey, the victim asked the two men to leave the bus, to help the bus driver.
After he got off the bus himself he was then attacked by the two men who also assaulted him while he was on the floor.
He sustained facial injuries, including a cut to his right eye, in the incident, which happened at 1am on Saturday.
A 21-year-old man from Netley Abbey and a 20-yearold man from Sholing have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and have been bailed until February pending further enquiries.
