WITH thousands of people suffering from dementia in Hampshire this Christmas, one charity is offering advice to help make this festive season special.

Care UK have come up with top tips on how to take the strain out of the festive season when caring for a loved one who has dementia and make it fun for all.

These include making Christmas cakes to get the whole family involved, singing and music is a great way to help those with problems communicating, while having a quiet place for those suffering with dementia to sit will help relieve any stress.

Maizie Mears-Owens from the charity said: “The most important thing is to enjoy yourself and enjoy your relatives. If you can laugh when things don’t quite go to plan, you and they will have a happy time and create new memories for your family.”
