IT was an unwanted Christmas present for one Southampton man after a tree crashed onto his car.

Tony Taylor's Chrysler 300 was severely damaged after the tree fell onto it in Linford Crescent at just before midnight last night.

He was watching Match of the Day with his girlfriend Diana Simms when they heard a loud crash outside.

Daily Echo:

They were unable to see the tree but it was not until this morning that he realised it was his car that suffered the brunt of the damage.

Now he fears he may not be able to spend Christmas Day with his mum Angie Taylor.

The 29-year-old said: “It's quite unfortunate and I do feel sad about this.

“I don't have a lot of money in my bank but I do live for my car.

“When I opened the car door to get my wallet I saw that the gear box was flooded.

“I do think it is repairable but the insurance company cannot do anything until the tree is moved off the car.

“I am happy that it has not damaged anyone's flats and that no one was hurt.”
