LAST-minute shoppers were able to grab themselves a tree-mendous deal after Christmas trees went on sale for just 1p at Hampshire-based hardware giants B&Q.
Families scouting for a bargain were able to grab one of the real firs at a fraction of the original price.
The trees, selling for as much as £45 in B&Q stores this week, were being snapped up by shoppers stunned by the price.
One customer at B&Q in Hedge End said: “I’m thinking of spending a pound and planting a whole forest in my garden!
“Everything else has been so expensive this year I’m virtually down to my last penny anyway, but this is a real bargain.”
The offer was in place at dozens of stores across the UK – and staff were even offering to carry trees to customers’ cars.
A spokesman for B&Q said: “We’re glad to be able to spread some cheer as we reduce our real Christmas trees to just one penny as the big day draws closer.
“We’ve also got the lights and decorations to help create festive homes across the UK and there’s 50 per cent off all Christmas ranges. Merry Christmas!”
