NEARLY 1,000 homes in the New Forest were still without electricity last night.

Bosses at Scottish and Southern Energy said they were among around 6,500 of its customers without power, mainly in rural areas, after Monday night's storms brought down power lines across the south.

Engineers who worked throughout Christmas Day were back at work today.

The village of Burley in the New Forest was among the worst affected.

Homes in Titchfield, Droxford, Meonstoke and Barton Stacey were also still cut off.

Bosses are hopeful the vast majority of people will be reconnected by the end of today.
