Shoppers pack Southampton to bag a bargain in the Boxing Day sales

Daily Echo: Shoppers packed Southampton today to bag a bargain in the Boxing Day sales Shoppers packed Southampton today to bag a bargain in the Boxing Day sales

THOUSANDS of shoppers packed Southampton this morning to bag bargains in the Boxing Day sales.

Some were queuing from as early as 2.30am to get into shops like Next, which opened at 6am, and get the best deals.

Queue controls that would have been more at home at a major theme park were in place for most of the morning at the West Quay shopping centre store.

Even the rainy weather held off allowing shoppers to bask in sunlight as they spent hundreds of pounds on clothes, furniture, toys and electronics.

Other brands like GAP slashed prices by 75 per cent but most retailers were offering reductions of between 40-50 per cent.

Most of the big names like River Island, Marks and Spencer and Hollister were open but some retail giants, like John Lewis, remained closed.

Part of the reason why I rarely shop in Southampton - English is rarely heard above the babble of Asian and Eastern European languages. Lived in London many years ago and left because of the crowds, the difficulty in being understood, the dirt and grime(from traffic). Hmm..

Not rubbish at all, its showing how bad the economy really is and not all the hype you get from people like your self.
In a healthy economy what sales there are last for a very short time a matter of a week or two and not mth or two like they are now

All of the respected economics predictions show the UK moving in the right direction but that doesn't really dovetail with your jaundiced view of the world does it? It's a tricky question but do we believe those with an educated view backed up by statistics or do we take the word of a bitter old man living on a sink estate who openly admits to a limited education and a dismal track record in life? Perhaps the acceptance of capitalism in Cuba or the humiliation of 'Grangemouth' hasn't sunk in yet? In a few days time the world will progress in to 2014, isn't it time to leap fifty years and move with it?

Well then now you are the foreigner - I hope you are as welcomed by them as much as you treated foreigners here. Glad we got rid of another racist from the streets.

This artificial is about shopping yet the amount of racially motivated abusive comments is shocking. You make me embarrassed to be British.

Lol you make me laugh - open your eyes and see what's happening to Southampton with the influx of people moving there. It doesn't make me less British or even racist to not want so many people living there, but if you are embarrassed to be British then so be it lol

If you opened your eyes you would learn a sense of culture and morals from most of these people. They are probably up early for the sales because they aren't hung over. Being white or British doesn't make you superior, we are all human beings living on the same planet. If you visited their country I am sure you would be treated with respect and would be welcomed. If you are that bothered by them I'm assuming you only eat British food listen to folk music etc.

In a few days time the world will progress in to 2014, isn't it time to leap fifty years and move with it?
so you think its moving in the right direction, its not its still going downwards all your having is a small peak that will not even reach a 1/3 of the way to the last peak, over 30 years the economy as been in a free fall with tiny peaks of improvement but do not last long before the fall drops and each peak is lower than the last peak, when was the last time there was improvements for 9 mths in a row, you will need to go back 30 plus years, problem is people like your self who see the economy struggle for an improvement to last 3 mths and you call that going in the right direction, its not an improvement in the economy got to last for at lest 15 years just to get 1/4 of the way to how good the economy was in 1979.
What you on about acceptance of Capitalism in Cuba, Cuba all ways been a Capitalist state, just that since 1958 Cuba been a State Capitalist country, it kick out of there system Imperialism and Corporation Capitalism, the system that you seem to like "Corporation Capitalism" got removed it should of been removed world wide.
There was no humiliation from Grangemouth unless you are a Tory or Radcliffe, Radcliffe had to back down big time, and the Tory lie in the house of commons about vote fixing was false as the commissioners and police investigation proved, no action can be taking as no laws was broken.
Its time you realise what is really going on out there, just because your ok, a thousand plus are not

A predictable seasonal variation of the usual socialist rubbish.
In a few days time the world will progress in to 2014, isn't it time to leap fifty years and move with it?
so you think its moving in the right direction, its not its still going downwards all your having is a small peak that will not even reach a 1/3 of the way to the last peak, over 30 years the economy as been in a free fall with tiny peaks of improvement but do not last long before the fall drops and each peak is lower than the last peak, when was the last time there was improvements for 9 mths in a row, you will need to go back 30 plus years, problem is people like your self who see the economy struggle for an improvement to last 3 mths and you call that going in the right direction, its not an improvement in the economy got to last for at lest 15 years just to get 1/4 of the way to how good the economy was in 1979.
Its time you realise what is really going on out there, just because your ok, a thousand plus are not
Still in complete denial about reality.
Yes we know your in complete denial about reality, the reality of it all is that for every single person that is doing ok, there,s are 1,000's to that single person that is not doing ok.
Our Economy as been falling now for 30 years, and you think wow great for the second mth in a row the economy as improved, it don't matter to you if it don't reach the last peak.
A economy that is working and working the right way, there would be no unemployment, there would be no national debt, no poverty, no homeless, no food banks

Oh dear Peter, I really do worry for you, your grip on reality is still crumbling.

'A economy that is working and working the right way, there would be no unemployment, there would be no national debt, no poverty, no homeless, no food banks.'

There's no such thing as a perfect economy.

If you believe Socialism or Trotsky-ism would eliminate the all of the above then I'm afraid...

Head's gone. Taxi for Peter.
