TWO Southampton supermarkets have been burgled by thieves targeting cigarettes.

An unknown quantity of cigarettes was stolen from Tesco in Tebourba Way, Millbrook, at around 1.54am, where burglars broke in via a fire exit to the side of the main entrance.

They forced the shutters open and stole several packs, although supermarket staff are still counting stock to determine exactly how much was taken.

Later in the morning at around 4.30am Sainsbury's in Lordshill District Centre was also broken into, triggering an alarm.

Cigarettes were again targeted but the thieves were unable to open the shutters.

A motorbike carrying two people was seen at both burglaries and police are appealing for witnesses with any information on people or vehicles in the area at the time.

Anyone with information should call Shirley CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
