A 93-YEAR-old Royal Navy veteran confronted a burglar in the bedroom of his Hampshire home.

He shouted at the man who fled the property in Solent Way, Gosport, with £100 in cash and bank cards as well as a clear glass jewellery box and jewellery which included a distinctive silver tie pin. The pin has an image of an Inca god in the centre.

The victim, who served in the Navy for 35 years, was left shaken by his ordeal.

Police, who described this as an “appalling crime”, say some of the items were recovered on a route between Vectis Road and Oval Gardens and they would be interested in hearing from anyone who may have come across other items of property which were taken.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det Con Dermot McBride at Fareham Police Station on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
