AN elderly man was targeted by conmen trying to sell him “over-priced” items at his home.

The 75-year-old was approached by two men at his home in Whitmore Court, Freshwater, Isle of Wight, and was offered the items for sale.

The incident happened at midday on December 20.

One of the suspects is described as white, in his 30s, 5ft 10ins, of slim build, and was wearing a coat with a hood up.

The second man is described as white, in his 30s, 6ft, and was wearing a navy blue top and jeans.

Investigating officer DC Gillian Harvey, of Newport CID, said: “This is a despicable crime against a vulnerable person. Maybe you live in the area and were approached too?

“We are reminding local residents to ensure their properties are left secure at all times, and to remember that you have the right to refuse entry to any uninvited visitors. Always ask for identification, and if you are still unsure you can call the police.”
