A WOMAN has died from her injuries after a crash which claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl.

Police confirmed the 67-year-old woman passed away today after suffering serious injury in the accident at Mersley Down, Isle of Wight, yesterday afternoon.

As previously reported the teenage girl, who has now been named as Kiri-Jade Hodgkinson, was one of two back seat passengers in a Renault Clio being driven by an 18-year-old man.

He remains in a critical but stable condition. The other passenger, a girl aged 13, is said to be serious but stable in hospital. Both were flown by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital where they are being treated today.

Police have revealed that the Clio, for unknown reasons now under investigation, crossed the road into the path of an oncoming Renault Megane being driven by a 67-year-old man.

His wife, also 67, was a passenger and suffered serious injuries from which she later died at St Mary's Hospital.

The crash happened at 3.17pm on Thursday, January 2.

Kiri-Jade of Queens Road, Sandown, was pronounced dead at the scene. Sergeant Rob Heard from the Road Death Investigation team said: “This is a very serious incident that has sadly resulted in the deaths of two people and my thoughts are with both families. “Our investigation is focusing on establishing exactly what happened and the circumstances that led to the collision. “We know the Clio was travelling west but for reasons yet to be established it crossed into the path of the Megane which was travelling in the opposite direction. The Clio was struck by the Megane on its nearside causing fatal injuries to the front-seat passenger, Kiri-Jade Hodgkinson.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, who saw either of the vehicles driving prior to it or anyone else with information that could assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt Heard at Eastleigh police station on 101, quoting Operation Mohite.
