Hampshire and Southampton on major flood alert

PARTS of Hampshire remain on flood alert following heavy rainfall overnight and further rain forecast for today.

Environment Agency flood alerts remain in place from Milford-on-Sea to Lymington and at the Lymington River following high rainfall over the last few days.

The agency has forecasted a high tide level to affect Milford-on-Sea to Lymington at around 2.30pm today.

A westerly wind with a force five strength has also been forecasted.

The Environment Agency added there could be a further 15-35mm of rainfall today, leading to a rapid rise in water levels in the Lymington River.

Homeowners have been warned to stay prepared for potential flooding.

Drivers have been warned to expect hazardous driving conditions this morning and throughout the day.

There is excess water on Bursledon Road, Eastleigh, near the fire station and drivers have been warned to approach with caution.

Flooding is affecting the A272 road from Winchester to Petersfield this morning.

Train commuters face travel disruption this morning too as railway lines are affected by flooding and obstructions caused by the weather.

No trains are running on the line between Winchester and Micheldever due to a fallen tree.

Engineers are at the scene to remove the tree but passengers are warned to expect delays of up to an hour while the line remains closed.

This is affecting the line between Eastleigh and Basingstoke.

Users of the South West Trains service between Weymouth and London Waterloo, and the CrossCountry service between Bournemouth and Birmingham New Street will be affected.

There are further delays for train passengers on First Great Western's service from Southampton Central to Bristol Temple Meads.

Delays of up to an hour have been reported as trains run at a reduced speed due to flooding.

Tickets are being accepted on South West Trains services.

There is currently no estimate on when normal services will resume.

A fire crew from St Mary's fire station in Southampton was sent to a house in Woolston to reports of falling tiles.

They attended the three storey property at around 9.30am and used an aerial ladder platform to make the building safe.

Traffic in and out of Lyndhurst town centre is currently slow due to flooding on a number of roads.

Part of Balmer Lawn Road in Brockenhurst is closed due to extensive flooding.

Heavy flooding is also blocking a road into Brockenhurst town centre (above). 

Southern train services between Southampton Central and Havant are no longer running due to flooding in Hamble.

Trains that run between London Victoria and Southampton Central will be diverted to start and terminate at Portsmouth Harbour and not call at stations between Havant and Southampton Central.

Yesterday parts of Southampton were flooded along with Hamble and Lymington.
