TIME is running out to find Southampton’s hospital hero.

We would like to hear from anyone who wants to nominate someone working at Southampton General Hospital, the Princess Anne Hospital or Countess Mountbatten House for this year’s Daily Echo Hospital Heroes award.

The campaign celebrates the dedication of staff who go that extra mile to put a smile on the faces of patients in the city.

We have joined forces with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust to shine a light on those individuals who work tirelessly to make a difference to those suffering.

So whether it is a dedicated doctor, a nurse who has put you at ease, receptionist, midwife, physiotherapist, porter or other hospital staff, we want to hear from you.

The winner will follow in the footsteps of last year’s hero, specialist cancer nurse Donna Sharland, who went above and beyond to put her patients at ease.

She was nominated by grand-father Daniel Fitzpatrick who credits his victory over cancer to the “brilliant” care he received from the nurse who inspired him to face his fears.

Nurse Sharland took the time to explain the treatment and answer the questions of the 57-year-old from Totton, giving him the confidence to tackle chemotherapy.

But time is running out to get your nominations in, so if you would like to put someone forward call Newsdesk on 023 8042 4500, email newsdesk@dailyecho.co.uk or write to Newsdesk, Southern Daily Echo, Newspaper House, Test Lane, Redbridge, Southampton, SO16 9JX. The closing date is January 31.
