Daily Echo: Housing fair to help students find accommodation Housing fair to help students find accommodation

A HOUSING fair is being staged this week to help students find homes in Southampton.

The event, organised by the Southampton University Students Union, is part of a campaign to improve the service given to students when it comes to finding accommodation.

The campaign is aimed at relieving the pressure on students to find a home by urging letting agents not to rush students into signing contracts before official housing lists become available.

The housing fair on Friday will take place at the Student Union building from 10am to 5pm and will include workshops on housing contracts, a drop-in with advice centre staff, and information about accommodation issues including locations, utilities and insurance.

Inform Al says...

This would not be necessary if the uni adopted its duty of care for the students and supplied all the necessary halls of residence on campus. The nearest they have come to supplying new halls of residence is to steal the Swaythling youth centre, courtesey of Royston, to build some of the needed accomodation. They have plenty of room on campus, but would rather inconvenience the locals.
