A WOMAN has sustained serious injuries in a two-car crash.

The incident, on Botley Road, in Bishop's Waltham happened after two deer were in the road and one of the cars swerved to avoid them leading to the collision between a blue Nissan Primera and a silver Vauxall Astra.

This caused the closure of the road at the Bishop's Waltham roundabout and tailbacks for motorists.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a woman in her early 30s from Bishop's Waltham, was taken by air ambulance to Southampton General Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

Police say her injuries are serious but not thought to be life threatening.

The driver of the Nissan, a man in his 50s, was unhurt in the incident, which unfolded around 6.40am this morning.

The road has now re-opened.
