FIREFIGHTERS have been stood down from a Southampton tower block after it turned out to be a false alarm.
Six fire engines were initially called to the blaze on the the 15th floor of Albion Towers, in Golden Grove, Southampton after the call came in at 7.33am this morning, which is standard practice for tower blocks.
One resident of the towers said he had seen four crews outside the block.
Wardens at the building said the smoke alarm had gone off in one of the flats but there had not been a fire and no-one had been hurt or evacuated.
A Hampshire Fire and rescue Service spokeswoman said it was a false alarm with good intent and firefighters left the scene after 20 minutes..
