A SOUTHAMPTON road has been closed by police tonight after a pedestrian was hit by a car.

Part of Regents Park Road is currently cordoned off following the collision which happened close to the entrance of Costco and the Regents Park pub.

Two officers and a stationary police car are preventing any traffic from entering the road.

Police say it is likely to remain shut for some time while accident investigators examine the area and they are asking drivers to find alternative routes.

It's believed the accident happened around 5.45pm with the first 999 call made to police at 5.47pm.

Hampshire police control room has said the situation is very much ongoing and they are unable to release further details.
