RESEARCHERS at the University of Southampton have evaluated how members of the public view climate engineering.

The study, which was carried out along with researchers from Massey University in New Zealand, discovered people have a negative view of largescale manipulation of the environment to counteract climate change.

The work was published in Nature Climate Change.

Some scientists think climate engineering will be required to reduce CO2 in the Earth’s atmosphere or approaches that slow temperature rise by reducing the amount of sunlight reaching the surface.

The results show the public has strong negative views towards the process, but favour approaches that reduce carbon dioxide over those that reflect sunlight.
