A MAN has been arrested after two sisters were seriously hurt in a crash on a busy Hampshire dual carriageway.
The crash, which happened this morning or (Jan 13) at 9.25am on the A3 southbound carriageway at Buriton near Petersfield saw a lorry collide with a broken down Peugeot 306 which caught fire.
The Peugeot was driven by a 21-year-old woman with two sisters as passengers. Two air ambulances were called to take two of the sisters to Southampton General Hospital, while the third sister was treated at the scene for shock.
The driver of the Peugeot suffered life-threatening injuries and her sister who was a front seat passenger suffered serious injuries.
The HGV driver, from Bulgaria, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving without due care and attention and the A3 was shut in both directions near Petersfield following the crash.
Witnesses should call Sgt Wayne Voller on 101 quoting Operation Forgarty.
