A SOUTHAMPTON man, who admitted three robbery charges, has been sent to a Hampshire hospital for him to be assessed under the Mental Health Act.

Richard Martin, defending, said Gary Bellows was suffering from an illness but it was unsure whether a hospital order was the right thing for him.

“But he has been involved with the mental health service for some time.”

Judge Peter Henry QC, who read two psychiatric reports, adjourned his case until April 7 for a full assessment to be made. Bellows, 39, of St Mary Street, had pleaded guilty to robbing two men on the same day of £20 in cash and a pair of scissors and attempting to rob a third.

He had also admitted possessing cannabis and damaging household effects belonging to one of his robbery victims.
