Man found dead at Millbrook train station 'was not attacked' police reveal

Daily Echo: Police at the scene at Millbrook Railway Station over the weekend Police at the scene at Millbrook Railway Station over the weekend

POLICE believe they may now know what killed a man found dead at a train station in Southampton.

The body of a man believed to be in his late 20s was discovered on a pathway behind Millbrook station on Sunday.

Officers are ruling out the possibility he was attacked after last night's post mortem revealed his body showed no signs of physical injury.

But police are awaiting reports of a toxicology test to determine whether he took any drugs in his final moments.

His body was discovered at 11.30am on Sunday but it is believed he may have died on Saturday afternoon.

He is yet to be formally identified but documents found in his pockets suggest he was 29 and Polish.

Officers are liaising with police in Poland to trace his next of kin.

Detective Inspector Damon Kennard from Shirley CID who is working on the case said: “Formal identification is still being awaited but we strongly believe he is of eastern European descent and enquiries are going on in Poland.

“The early indications are that it's more likely to be a drug related death but we need to await confirmation of a toxicology result.”

The pathway, which runs parallel to the railway line from the outskirts of the city centre all the way to the station is regularly used by commuters and trainspotters.

He urged anyone who used the pathway since Saturday afternoon to contact police and added:  “We encourage anyone who saw a male in his late 20s walking around there to call us.”

Anyone with any information should contact DS Boughay at Shirley CID on 101.

Unfortunately Peter is very real.

The death of a man is unimportant - it fades in comparison as long as he feels the geography is wrong.

He is incapable of shame.

Why do they need to say that? It's a trivial detail that only the truly cretinous would give a toss about given the subject matter. You really are a clown.

Yes, but of course this is no such vehicle to show respect, compassion or any other demonstration of social conscience.
It's a place to bully, intimidate, be-little and abuse. All wondrous qualities demonstrated daily by the usual protagonists on here - the vast majority of whom would mess their pants in any 'real life' conflict.

Aww, poor Peter. Like you haven't got anything better to do rather than correct geographical trivia on a story regarding someone who died.

You two should get a room.

But you'll have to ask Nick to move over first Simon.

All you've seen is people online. How many of these people have you subsequently met in real life, and can you share the findings of your extensive evaluations please? Or is it just conjecture? You're probably right, a lot of the loud-mouthed on the Internet are most likely pretty meek IRL. But to claim it is automatically the case, that's pure wishful thinking on your part. It's highly unlikely that every single person who is outspoken and brash, or a bit mean on a website is a spotty teenage coward.

You surely don't believe that just because one CAN hide ones true self on the Internet, that they all ARE? You, presumably, aren't. So why assume someone else is simply because you find their behaviour unpalatable? It makes no sense.

Just a thought. As for southy, he does get a hard time, but he does actively invite it. He's been caught out telling the most ridiculous lies in the course of a debate with another poster. Even if that debate remains courteous and impersonal, with no insults from either side, he's still more than happy to tell complete and utter lies in order to "win". That's why he is subject to particular scrutiny. He's just as much the bully as anyone else, just a bit more snide and sneaky about it.
