ORGANISERS of one of Hampshire’s biggest running events are expecting record numbers this year.

About 3,000 people are due to go under starter’s orders for the B&Q Eastleigh 10k – more than ever before – as the annual run celebrates its 30th anniversary.

The event, on March 23, attracts runners from across the UK who all descend on Eastleigh to take advantage of the fast, flat course, which is ideal for top athletes and fun runners alike.

Race organiser Steve Collins said: “We have never had so many entries so early. The huge level of interest in running is continuing as more people look to have healthier lifestyles.

“The event at the end of March provides an ideal target for many new year’s resolutions and also continues to provide a great fundraising opportunity for local people to raise money for a cause that is dear to them."

He added: “B&Q’s continued sponsorship for this community event is simply fantastic.

“They have sponsored the event for the last 23 years and we believe that this could be the longest sponsorship of a road race or indeed any major event by a company in the country.

“And this year we are pleased to also be supporting the Wave105 Cash for Kids appeal.”
