LAVISH casinos, beachthemed clubs, cabaret theatres and rock ’n’ roll memorabilia.

It sounds like the Las Vegas Strip but they are just some of the attractions on offer on one of the world’s latest and most vibrant cruise ships.

The Norwegian Getaway, which is currently docked in Southampton, welcomed celebrities, dignitaries and the press for an insight into what the spectacular vessel has to offer.

Saints star Jos Hooiveld joined celebrities Jennifer Ellison, famous for her role in television soap Brookside, and former Great British Bake-Off winner and cookery writer Jo Wheatley on board to meet Hampshire youngsters supported by charity CLIC Sargent.

The charity was invited on to the ship by Norwegian Cruise Line, which owns Norwegian Getaway.

The young people invited to see the cruise liner have been treated at the children’s ward at Southampton General Hospital.

Jennifer, who has just finished performing in a West End production of Singin’ in the Rain, said: “It was lovely meeting the children and really nice to speak to their parents.

“Being a mum myself, God only knows what they are going through.

“The ship is amazing. I cannot believe how big it is.”

Saints defender Jos said: “There is enough to do on board, it has nice restaurants, it has everything.”

Trisha Martin, CLIC Sargent social work team leader at Southampton General Hospital, added: “It’s lovely and it’s something the children can really enjoy.

“We can see the cruise liners from the hospital and just to be on board to come and have a look around is a lovely opportunity.”

Jennifer and Jo also signed a celebratory cake made by the ship’s Carlos Bakery, which will be used to raise money for CLIC Sargent.

The cruise ship, which boasts 18 decks, will depart on its inaugural journey today, when it will head to Miami.
