POLICE are hunting arsonists who set fire to a car in Southampton.

The Vauxhall Astra was set alight in the Plough Inn pub car park in Portsmouth Road, Bursledon, at 9pm on Sunday.

Pub staff initially threw buckets of water over the burning vehicle before crews from Hightown fire station arrived and used hose reels to put it out.

It caused damage to the car bonnet and the vehicle is likely to be written off. Officers want to trace two people wearing balaclavas seen running from the area shortly afterwards.

Witnesses should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
