  • "Best news you could hope for - if true. Pochetino is key to our success.

I can't help the niggling feeling that none of this makes sense UNLESS Cortese really is planning on finding new buyers and coming back. It seems as though he sees this club as his baby now and leaving simply because Liebherr intends to sell doesn't make sense.

Not sure it's worth anything, but this is my feeling: Cortese (as reported) wanted Liebherr to hold off on a sale for "2-3 years". Why? Perhaps because he wanted the big money investment he felt he could attract with Champion's League football. Perhaps Liebherr couldn't see us ever achieving this and that was where the split came. Realising a sale would happen with or without his say so, Cortese decided to leave and try to bring in his own group now.

Why now? Why not in June? Cortese realises the club are pretty much where they will end up. 9th looks nailed on. Maybe 8th. 10th unlikely. He can spend the next five months looking for a buyer without worrying about the club.

This is, of course, nothing more than the ramblings of a fan on his lunchbreak. However, should Poch say he will stay until May and then review his options, I think that may substantiate my wild and hopeful fantasies. Is he going to hold on to see if Cortese comes back or simply bog off now?

    Only time will tell."
