Let's all get behind Kat and show her true southampton support. This is a good time to unite exiled players and others and become 1.... 1 love (southampton fc).
Even cortèse lovers cannot deny he had a skill of rubbing others up the wrong way. Hope Kat re-creates the happy family atmosphere of old, that would cement mopo to us. New chapter, wipe the slate clean. Cortèse has made his choice, mopo his, I know travelling fans will show him the loudest support, 3 points against the makems! Coyr's

Velleity says

Best comment for me: "I want to make something clear; no one is for sale at Southampton."

4:18pm

Katharina Liebherr leaving St Mary's Stadium.

Daily Echo:

3:53pm

Katharina Liebherr has now left St Mary's.

3:49pm

3:48pm

To summarise Pochettino praised Cortese, reaffirms his commitment to stay at the club and says no players are for sale.

However, he refused to say how long he was prepared to stay and on any details repeated that he had spoken to Katharina Liebherr for just five minutes before the press conference so we cannot take anything entirely for granted.

Pochettino will be grilled in much greater depth by the written press which means there will be some interesting stories and further details revealed tomorrow morning. They will all be on dailyecho.co.uk

3:46pm

That's the end of the broadcast section. The written section has an embargo which means it cannot be reported until tomorrow

3:45pm

As the broadcast section of the press conference wraps up Pochettino is, almost half jokingly, asked about team news for Sunderland.

Pochettino: "It's only normal we are speaking about these things but we need to focus on Saturday. It's very important for us to get a positive result on Saturday."

3:44pm

It is steaming hot in the press conference room. It's never been this busy before

3:44pm

Pochettino cracks a joke in amognst it all. "He (Cortese) had great vision in bringing me here."

3:43pm

Pochettino: "I want to make something very clear. No one is for sale at Southampton, No one.

"My belief has not changed from one week ago. No player I don't want to leave will leave this club."

3:41pm

When asked if he has assurances over players not being sold Pochettino again says he only spoke with Liebherr for five minutes.

Pochettino: "She wants the club to be stable, to not let this affect the club."

3:40pm

Pochettino is asked if will see out the remainder of his contract, which runs until the end of next season.

Pochettino: "It's very hard to say at the moment...I have a contract and a responsiblity with Southampton Football Club."

3:38pm

Pochettino: "I would like to add when Nicola offered me my contract there was only one thing he siad to me, be 100 per cent professional always. That makes him a stand out guy and I would like to say that."

3:37pm

Pochettino: "I said to the players exactly what I am saying to you now."

3:35pm

Pochettino: "It has surprised me quite a bit (Cortese leaving)...I knew nothing about his departure."

3:35pm

Pochettino is asked about the transfer window and whether her supports extends to signing players but again repeats he has only spoken to her for five minutes

3:34pm

Pochettino: "The chairman has given me her full support."

3:34pm

He is asked if the future of Luke Shaw was a factor but says he can't answer it. "It's a question for the new chairman." Says he is not aware of any bids for Shaw

3:33pm

Pochettino says he doesn't know why Cortese has left

3:32pm

Pochettino: "He agrees with my decision to stay.

"He only asked for me one thing and that's to try and win on Saturday."

3:32pm

Asked if Cortese convinced him to stay in charge for this weekend

3:32pm

Pochettino says he hasn't spoken to Liebherr about her intentions to sell the club or not

3:31pm

Pochettino: "I spoke to her five mintues before this press conference and she transmitted to me her full trust and the people working for this football club."

3:31pm

He is asked about his discussions with Katharina Liebherr

3:30pm

Pochettino: "Eight months ago when we were speaking about this we were finishing my first season and I said if he left there would be no sense in me staying. This situation is completely different. We are in the middle of this project.

"Nicola knows my decision to stay. I have spoken to him about it. It shows I am committed."

3:28pm

Pochettino: "I want to show my complete gratitude to Nicola Cortese. He believed in us and brought us here."

3:27pm

He is asked why the change of heart to stay when Nicola has gone

3:27pm

He sits flanked by translator David and the club's head of media Jordan Sibley

3:26pm

Pochettino arrives ready for the press conference to begin in a matter of seconds.

All the highlights of what he says here.

3:24pm

We are hearing that Pochettino has told his first interview of the day with club media that, as expected, he is staying at Saints.

He conducts that interview in the tunnel area before heading over to the press conference room to speak to everybody else

Pochettino has emerged from his meeting. He and his staff, including assistant Jesus Perez, seem in a good mood

The stripes says

If Poch really does confirm he’s staying on then it will not only be great for us and the club, but will go a long way to build on his character as a truly decent and loyal guy. His reputation and the respect he will gain as a manager will rise by sticking with us during this turbulent time. This will rub off on the players and the fans too. For him to walk out of a club after what’s happened would make him a pretty ruthless kind of bloke and he wouldn’t want that hanging over him as he’s paving his way in the best league in the World.

I know it’s not confirmed yet but I’m staying positive.

UTS!

1:20pm

Saints fan Jamie New, 17, from Hedge End says: “I first started going to Saints when they were in League One. This is the best time I’ve known in five-years of supporting the club.

“It would be a real shame for the clubs progress – I hope the club don’t go backwards from here.

“Its upsetting Cortese has gone after such a long time and how well we’ve done. It would be more disappointing if Pochettino follows.”

“It would leave Saints in a tough situation halfway through a season. The players must be so disappointed and if the likes of Dejan Lovren go I could see us going on a bad run, relegation is not mathematically impossible.”

“It is down to Katharina Liebherr, the family have invested so much and at least if she does decide to sell the club we are in a better situation than five years ago.”

1:18pm

1:17pm

1:16pm

1:11pm

Former Daily Echo sports reporter Jeremy Wilson, who now works for the Telegraph, has this to say on the situation:

1:04pm

Mick Channon thinks everything that is going on at Saints at the moment is a bit of a pantomime - but he is confident the club will cope just fine under Katharina Liebherr.

The votes are in from the Norwegian contingent.... VERY HAPPY!
Now let's get back and give all other team one hellllll of a beating!!!

12:56pm

Malcolm Lear, from Southampton: “I thought the problems had been sorted out in August, but the Liebherrs bought the club and it is their right to move things around as they see fit.”

“We’ve had Alan Pardew, Nigel Adkins and hopefully Pochettino will stay at least until the end of the season.”

“He’s had quite an impact and the squad is very strong now, hopefully there aren’t too many dramatic changes. But if they want to sell in January its up to the Liebherrs; it's their investment and they came in when we needed them.”

12:53pm

12:52pm

Now the focus will turn to players such as Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana who have been attracting attention from envious clubs.

12:52pm

There will be lots of happy fans upon hearing the news that Pochettino looks like he is set to stay at Saints, such as these supporters buying tickets this morning.

Daily Echo: Ticket office at St Mary's this morning

12:50pm

The Saints boss is currently taking a first team training session at Staplewood to prepare his side for their Premier League game at Sunderland on Saturday.

It is understood that Pochettino has already had contact with Katharina Liebherr, the Saints owner and new non-executive chairman, and will speak with her again before facing the media at St Mary’s. It is believed that Liebherr is not in the area for face to face talks today but has already convinced Pochettino to remain at the club.

Best news you could hope for - if true. Pochetino is key to our success.

I can't help the niggling feeling that none of this makes sense UNLESS Cortese really is planning on finding new buyers and coming back. It seems as though he sees this club as his baby now and leaving simply because Liebherr intends to sell doesn't make sense.

Not sure it's worth anything, but this is my feeling: Cortese (as reported) wanted Liebherr to hold off on a sale for "2-3 years". Why? Perhaps because he wanted the big money investment he felt he could attract with Champion's League football. Perhaps Liebherr couldn't see us ever achieving this and that was where the split came. Realising a sale would happen with or without his say so, Cortese decided to leave and try to bring in his own group now.

Why now? Why not in June? Cortese realises the club are pretty much where they will end up. 9th looks nailed on. Maybe 8th. 10th unlikely. He can spend the next five months looking for a buyer without worrying about the club.

This is, of course, nothing more than the ramblings of a fan on his lunchbreak. However, should Poch say he will stay until May and then review his options, I think that may substantiate my wild and hopeful fantasies. Is he going to hold on to see if Cortese comes back or simply bog off now?

Only time will tell.

I fancy NC will be back…he pulled one way and the Liebherr's pulled another..

.. plus a SERIOUS conflict of interest if as Chairman he plays both sides against the middle…

When the family realise the best bid is from him or his consortium they will take it but not until they find it out for themselves…

..at the moment it is a business far away for which as NC has made it look relatively easy they probably think they or someone else can do better/earn them more..

Unfortunately football is not like that!

1/ If KL knew he had handed in his notice in Oct, she doesn't seem to have been prepared and have sounded out any ceo's yet, why ?
2/ If NC had handed in his notice in Oct WHY all the fuss with the FA last week about Clattenburg ? why make a complaint if you have handed in your notice.
3/ A report yesterday said that KL had turned down 2 offers for the Club, surely the Echo could now find out more about those offers and why she turned them down ?

I know this sounds harsh (and I never expected to be saying it, if I'm honest) but if MoPo stays and if the Liebherrs continue to back us financially then what, exactly, have we lost? Nicola's hard work came in taking us back to the Prem - that was the part that needed real strategy and direction - but now we're here we're floating in an orbit and it's merely a question of backing a very good manager to ensure we stay here and become increasingly competitive.

Her father would have made this club a Chamipions League fortress.. she can uphold that legacy and become a legend in her own right. In Cortese's absence she will stand or fall by the actions we see in the near future.
While she treads with loyalty and commitment to this club she will command my undying support.

My thoughts exactly. If KL continues to invest in Southampton then NC's departure could amount to no more than a serve case of a personality clash and in that situation there was only going to be one winner.

I'd say it's more because the owners of the football club were fed up of being dictated to by their employee to be honest.

I think they were remarkably patient with him demanding full control of their property, but mainly because they rightly realised that he was doing a brilliant job and increasing it's value, plus they were reluctant to do anything Markus wouldn't have wanted.

If Nicola had plans to buy the club I would have thought he'd have done it when the price was lower - driving up the price so you can buy it doesn't make brilliant business sense, although if he really sees us as a Champions League club who knows..

Thank you Nicola Cortese for doing an incredible job for the Saints, backing your judgement and taking us from oblivion to the top half of the Premier League.

I'd like to think you'll be back to finish your dream, but for the time being thank you for everything - you are an unlikely Saints legend - quiet, tough and not always universally popular, but a saviour for us and someone who has given us a legacy to be proud of and a stability that I hope means we will never fall into the same hole as we did a few years ago and that our Blue friends are still busy digging.

I hope your brilliant work is continued.

Agree with all that, but I still think we need someone like him (ideally he himself) to continue to implement the strategy he set out. And then, before we fully achieve that strategy, to have the next 5 year strategic plan already in place to get us to the next level again.
I could be wildly wrong, but I just don't think Kat is that person so she is either going to need to bring in another chairman/woman or sell the club to someone else who will.

No one likes unrest but for the liebherrs now is the best time to sell to gain maximum profit from the deal... That's a fact and is business.

Another fact is as a club we have great assets, who ever buys us will want to carry that on and try to continue to grow us, but our growth herein will be slower and without such financial gain.

The liebherrs may decide they want to keep hold of us. We may look good in their business portfolio?

I do hope it's the former.[/p][/quote]No one likes unrest but for the liebherrs now is the best time to sell to gain maximum profit from the deal... That's a fact and is business. Another fact is as a club we have great assets, who ever buys us will want to carry that on and try to continue to grow us, but our growth herein will be slower and without such financial gain. The liebherrs may decide they want to keep hold of us. We may look good in their business portfolio? Only sure thing is I'll always be red n white! ghk230473

Nicola's hard work came in taking us back to the Prem - that was the part that needed real strategy and direction - but now we're here we're floating in an orbit and it's merely a question of backing a very good manager to ensure we stay here and become increasingly competitive.
We may miss his vision of what a top club looks like and how to get there. Say what you want about NC, but his vision has us where we are. MoPo is part of the vision, not the vision.
Perfectly put. I would guess the effort required to make us top four would at least match if not exceed the effort it took to get us from Div1 to where we are today.

Fellow Saints supporters:

I may be in the minority here but I am not sorry to see NC go.

He is an arrogant, rude and autocratic person who craved power and loved massaging his own ego. His ostracised ex players, upset the media and sacked programme sellers and kit men - because he could.

Sacked two managers because they could not get along and then threw his teddy out of the pram when he was stood up to.

Lets face facts:

1. Markus' money (RIP)
2. Excellent managers
3. Fantastic players
4. Wonderful facilities
5. Amazing supporters

What has he actually done apart from employ MoPo which was a massive gamble which thankfully paid off. They pray to only one GOD, the one that needs to be the new chairman.

3 points on Saturday which is what it is all about. COYR.

Not funny, not in the slightest. Actually, very rude.

So far as I and, I hope, all Saints supporters, Katherina will become the best lady in Hampshire. She has made a start keeping Poch but if plans to sell the club are ongoing we are not likely to get too much hot news just now.

But I feel a little easier. After this perhaps we will get 3 points at Sunderland so long as the team has settled after a nasty 24 hours.

I think you may be in a very small minority.

Most admit he had faults. Most at the same time actually acknowledge what he did for the club. To say all he did was hire MOPO is a bit silly unless you want to give credit for everything else to Les Reed.

You won't get a thumbs down on here it doesn't work, oddly enough I have been observing on the #saints twitter site and just 2 posters have been trolling abusive messages about KL for hours and some of them very similar to your messages, do you really want to be compared to these sad saps who are seriously in need of counselling, needless to say they are both skates.

So one of the things about the timing of this is that we are very unlikely to be bringing any players in during this transfer window, but I guess if we just held onto all the ones we have it will great!

The problem here is that to engage our senses of humour and amuse us, you need to find something original and funny, keep trying you may hit the spot in time. Fat chance of that I am thinking.

I'm sure there are plenty of single fellas on here, St D. :)

So, if the next news is 11pm (that's midnight in Euros!), I won't be waiting up.

Quite a normal day in Saintsland; what's planned for tomorrow? Is one of the first team coming out? Will Mrs Wilson finally hit on Confucious? Will we discover that Retford is standing for UKIP in Stretford South? Will we find out that Osprey is having an affair with a French actress in Paris? Will Clever Dick turn out to be not clever at all? Will Velleity dig up some past post proving that Tebourba was all along NC just having a laugh? Will Terrence (where has he been through all this - bl00dy French, never there during a crisis!!!) and StElsass discover that they are, after all, English?

Or, will tomorrow be, once more, just another normal day in Saintsland?

Night all, don't have nightmares!

Sacked two managers because they could not get along and then threw his teddy out of the pram when he was stood up to.

Lets face facts:

1. Markus' money (RIP)
2. Excellent managers
3. Fantastic players
4. Wonderful facilities

What has he actually done apart from employ MoPo which was a massive gamble which thankfully paid off. They pray to only one GOD, the one that needs to be the new chairman.

Let me see now. What has he actually done.
1. Yes it was Marcus's money but without his vision Marcus would never haveeven heard of the Saints.
2. He brought all of our last three managers in and that is why we have MoPo now.
3. Yes the players are fantastic. Some brought in and some progressing through the Academy. (Which he has spent more money on improving) How many of our young stars would be in the first team squad without his and MoPo's desire to bring on young players.
4.wonderful facilities which have been improved since his arrival.
5.can't beat the best.
Not a lot really then.

From Matty's blog @ goalden oals

There will probably be a lot of fans, who are only concerned about what happens on the pitch, who will think this is bad thing for the club, which is quite understandable.
But I think anybody who’s had any dealings with the man will think completely differently.
A lot of them will think “Good riddance” to be honest because he upset quite a lot of people with the way he conducted his business."

Blah, blah, blah. Le Tiss will alwys be Le God, but he does not do himself any favours sometimes. The truce where they both kept it out of he media was quite nice!

He can't not think much of the rumours of the Don's return!

I am afraid to say that I certainly do. Flight No. tomorrow is ELL9707 due in from Birmingham 16:15 departing around 17:10 if you want to wave them off. Usual disclaimers apply.

Pocheittino is going to both honour his 17 month contract and also make a decision about staying for next season in the summer.

I love the French - even this near to the German border they turn up late.

So, let's recap.

MP stays
All the players (that he wants) stay
We're all still here
3 pts Saturday and (almost) everything will be as normal.

The London-based press must be sobbing in their Fuller's Bests, bless 'em.
I should have checked earlier, but your sms is on its way.
Good, about bl00dy time, RS. :)

Send your son's number, too and I'll buy him a beer in the Station pre-match verses Liverpool.
I'll send him you number, but he usually spends the time on Saturdays before going to St Marys working on some internet project he's doing with his mates. Still, he might be interested in free pint and meeting you again.
