AN ELDERLY woman was targeted by conmen who stole £100 from her.

The cold callers had offered to carry out gardening work for the 96-year-old when they approached her at her home.

But after taking payment from her at her home on the Isle of Wight, they made off without doing any of the work.

The two men approached her at her house near Wootton Bridge in Ryde during the daytime on January 9.

One is described as white, aged between 18 to 25 years old, about 6ft tall, of slim build and wearing a yellow, high-visibility jacket.

The other man is described as white, between 30 and 40 years old, about 5ft 10ins tall, of medium build and with dark brown hair.

He was wearing a red jumper and a fawn coloured sleeveless puffer jacket, and spoke with an Irish accent.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw the men, or was approached by them.

Anyone with information should contact PC Cummings at Ryde Police Station by calling 101.
