A HAMPSHIRE pensioner is celebrating a new year windfall that could see her and her husband jet off for a muchneeded holiday in 2014.

Great-grandmother Mary Phillips, from Sholing, Southampton, scooped the runner-up prize in the Daily Echo’s Find the Ball competition, picking up £2,550.

The 81-year-old, who has been playing the competition for many years, hopes to spend the money on her family, which includes nine grandchildren, as well as using it to pay for a trip away with her husband of 50 years, David.

Mrs Phillips, a retired office worker, said: “I have won £15 a few times before but never anything like this.

“It’s lovely – a bit of money that we can use to treat ourselves and help the family out.”
