Detectives are renewing an appeal for information as an investigation continues into a robbery at a jewellers in Petersfield.

One further line of enquiry is finding a second car, described as a blue Jeep Cherokee, which is believed to be linked with the planning of this crime and the suspects.

Four men entered the jewellers in Rams Walk armed with tools shortly after 4.30pm on Thursday, January 16, 2014.

They threatened staff and stole a large amount of jewellery. It is believed another man was waiting outside.

The suspects were described as wearing dark-coloured clothing. Some of the group were wearing balaclavas or face masks.

The offenders left the scene in a silver Peugeot 406.

This car was then involved in a collision with a marked police car driven by officers who were responding to this incident.

The collision happened in Tilmore Gardens and resulted in the police car ending up on its roof.

The occupants of the police vehicle - a police community support officer and a police constable - were not seriously injured.

The offenders made off on foot in the direction of the A3 after this collision.

Detective Inspector Justin Torgout said: “A dedicated investigation team is pursuing many promising leads about the identities and actions of suspects.

"Officers are seeking sightings of a blue Jeep Cherokee with the registration S61X RJ.

"This car was seen in suspicious circumstances near the silver Peugeot 406 in the Petersfield area shortly before the robbery.

"We would seek any information regarding the current whereabouts of this vehicle or its movements over the past three days. We would also encourage the owner to contact the police."

He added: “We’re also continuing to appeal for any members of the public who were in Rams Walk or Tilmore Gardens on Thursday afternoon.

"Our focus is on sightings of the suspects going into or leaving the jewellers - or running off from a silver Peugeot 406 in Tilmore Gardens.

"A specific appeal remains for a member of the public - who spoke to shop staff shortly after the robbery - and who may have information that will assist our investigation."
