A CONTROVERSIAL plan for new housing in Southampton has been narrowly defeated.
Applicants Kevin and Mark Shepherd had applied for permission to build an extension on their property in Archery Grove, Woolston, providing two two-bedroom flats.
More than 80 residents objected claiming it would be out of character with surrounding family homes and overpopulate the area.
Although city council officers recommended approval, a planning committee voted four to three against permission.
