The Friends of Romsey Abbey are a 300-strong group of people who love and support the abbey but also venture further afield.

In March there is a visit to Brooklands Museum, to learn about the history of flight and motor racing from the 1920s and ’30s, plus the opportunity to board the Concorde for a virtual flight. In May, a visit to Bletchley Park, should provide a fascinating window on the activities of Britain’s Second World War code-breakers.

The friends’ annual dinner takes place at Berties in October. That month will also see a three-day excursion to York to visit the Railway Museum, the Yorvik Viking Centre, the Minster, and take a ghost tour of the city.

In November the friends are going to the Silk Mill at Whitchurch.

Other events, closer to home, include a strawberry tea in the Vicarage garden, talks in the abbey and guided tours and there will be plenty of coffee mornings throughout the year.
